Eating out
Monday, 4 February 2013
Just because you eat healthy doesn't mean you shouldn't get to enjoy eating out with friends and family! You can make healthy choices with what you order and still have a good time. So here are some tips and healthy restaurants I like to go to!
Tips
1) Eat only a fistful (1 cup) of the carbs, rice, pasta, noodles etc.
2) Order things baked, grilled, steamed, poached, boiled, broiled and roasted. Pan fried/Stir fried is ok but I have no clue what oil or how much oil they use so I don't recommend it lol.
3) Ask for your meal to be cooked with less oil/no salt or any thing you don't want. The chef shouldn't get pissed off because cooking for you is his job.
4) Choose lean meats like chicken, seafood and turkey.
5) Don't eat the chicken/turkey skin please.
6) Try getting wholewheat/wholemeal carbs whenever possible.
7) Don't get stuff with sauce unless it's the restaurants homemade sauce and doesn't have cream. If you do order something with sauce though ask for all sauces and dressings on the side. (Unless its like pasta sauce of course! Tomato based pasta sauce should be fine.) Try not to use any/too much sauce (especially japanese food and salad dressings).
8) Western restaurants usually have some sort of dish on the menu with meat like steak, fish or chicken and sides like corn, salad, baked beans, coleslaw, mashed potatoes. I love ordering those. Be sure you choose healthy sides though! Usually I get fish/chicken with corn and salad (:
9) Asian cuisine: go for the soups with clear broth, rice noodles and dumplings. I usually get things like vermicelli in a clear broth with sliced fish or something. If I get a dumpling soup I choose fish because I don't think they use chicken breast/lean pork in the dumplings (-: Basically always get seafood unless they actually say chicken breast or lean meat.
10) Before you eat at a restaurant, google their menu to see if they have healthy options! If not save yourself the trouble of stepping foot into the restaurant.
Favourite restaurants (Singapore)
1) Nandos
All their chicken is grilled so the oil drips off. Spicy foods help boost your metabolism too. Get the chicken breast fillet wraps, pitas, salads etc (: Try not to get the chicken leg!
2) Cedelé
Amazing food and wholemeal options for everything. They sell some healthy snacks you can't find anywhere else in Singapore too!
3) Toss n Turn
By Cedelé but only salads, soups and sandwiches. The salad bar is awesome!
Some other healthy restaurants:
1) Salad stop
2) Real Food cafe
3) The lawn
4) Sumo salad

For Singaporeans: eat this when you eat at hawker centres!
All in all, I love eating out but I don't do it too often because its always healthier and cheaper to cook your own food! Thank you for reading (: I hope this helps you make healthier choices when you eat out!
