The Living Cafe Review

Tuesday 30 July 2013

Hi guys (-: Today I'll just be doing a quick review on the living cafe which I had my birthday lunch at! The living cafe is a healthy and raw food cafe. When I first stepped in I saw this.

Their awesome dessert case with raw and vegan options. MMM.

Special of the month was Vietnamese spring rolls. We got 1/2 of them tofu and 1/2 of them chicken. Really yummy and the sauce went along perfectly.

Healthy Birthday Cake Pops

Saturday 27 July 2013

Today was certainly eventful. I sliced my thumb while trying to pry the cake pops off the plate. I bled everywhere Ew. But I still managed to cook lunch, do group work, go to the gym and cook dinner. Then my father saw the wound and my parents brought me to the doctor, who then sent me to the ANE (accident and emergency) in the hospital to get stitches. Got injected with general anesthetia (ow) before getting stitches done. First hospital experience with me as the patient, check.

Anyway recipe for these delicious cake pops now!

Vegan Orange Chocolate Tart

Thursday 25 July 2013

Tuesday was fab because it was oral for the sec 4s and the rest of us got to go home at 12.55. I left 10min early but I didn't think it mattered since we were basically on lunch break. Lunch is 12.15 - 12.55 I don't understand why they didn't just let us go home lol.

Now that I do Vegan Tuesdays, I've been experimenting with new foods! I'm finding eating enough protein a challenge but still I'm trying my best. This is a tart is made of a chocolate oat crust and orange tofu cream. Hope y'all like it!

Workout schedule

Hi so I feel like no one cares and likes it when I post fitness on Instagram. Still I get some questions on my workout schedule and what workouts I do exactly so I'm posting it all on here :) I'll update these workout posts whenever they change!

I do HIIT sprints 3 times a week. It's where I sprint for 1 min and stop for 1 min. I repeat 7 times total. So including the first minute where I'm adjusting the settings on the treadmill, that's 15min.

My leg and upper body workouts have already been posted.

I don't do yoga and abs as strictly. If I'm busy I just skip it (: for yoga I recommend the app "yogify" and for abs I recommend "blogilates" videos on YouTube.

Carrot cake cookies

Sunday 21 July 2013

SO EASY and so tasty and so healthy! Carrot cake cookies ftw. Makes 5 mini cookies. I drizzled some yogurt over these. You can also use cottage cheese/cream cheese mixed with water. Baked these in a convection oven. Increase time and temperature if using a normal oven.

SGFS: Fried Beehoon

This recipe is similar to the beehoon my family usually cooks so I would say its a "family recipe". You can't even tell its healthy! Oh I use half an egg in this recipe so if that's hard to do, just double the portion of the other ingredients and make 2 servings! If you want you can add chili  but I totally forgot to. Ooops. I ate it with chili powder though so it kinda makes up for it? :/

Twice baked sweet potatoes

Saturday 20 July 2013

Oh my goodness this was so delicious I couldn't stop telling my parents how awesome it tasted as I dug my spoon into the freshly baked sweet potato and fed my hungry after math tuition self with it. It really took my love for sweet potatoes to the next level. And I was so so happy to find this huge sweet potato at Fair Price Xtra. And just when I wanted to make this too! Normally the Vietnam sweet potatoes are these long skinny things but this was actually round and oval shaped and big. *.*

Chia jam filled pancakes

This was so fun eating. Nom. Imagine cutting into vanilla pancakes and have jam oozing out. All natural 2 ingredient strawberry chia jam.

Why mission ABB has been aborted

Sunday 14 July 2013

So for the longest time I've been trying to get abs. But that is no longer my goal. I'm 14 and I haven't *cough* reached puberty. I can't build lots of muscle, and I can't get abs while staying healthy.

"I disagree with Mark Rippetoe on many things but one thing we agree on is that for teens, getting sixpack abs may not be the best goal.  Your teenage years are when you are growing rapidly and an attempt to be ripped and vascular will probably interfere with your ability to gain muscle mass.  The teenage body does not want to be vascular.  Many teens do not yet have the core musculature to have visible abs at reasonable bodyfat levels.  It’s unwise to drop down to crazy low bodyfat levels in an attempt to see these marathon-runner abs.  A much better plan is to keep at healthy bodyfat levels, say 8-12%, and work on getting stronger overall with a well rounded workout plan for a few years.  Thats not to say that its OK to be fat, its not!  Being obese doesn’t help you gain muscle but   Getting rid of a belly is a great goal but for a teen, getting vascular 8-pack abs like Jeff Seid is a poor goal."

White Peach and Lemon Blondies

Peaches are in season right now which means they're super juicy and sweet! I knew I had to bake something with them before they went out of season so this is what I came up with.

This is my first time baking blondies ever. These white peach and lemon blondies are gluten free, added sugar free and have more protein than the regular blondie. They're also quick, clean, easy and super delicious! Crazy moist. Hard to believe they're healthy really ._.

Chocolate coconut crusted french toast

Hi guys! French toast for this Sunday because who doesn't love french toast! I used gardenia 100% wholemeal bread. A lot of wholemeal breads out there are only like 60% wholemeal! So be careful haha. Not that you'll die if you eat non wholemeal bread ._. Just that bread is already processed and not so clean so the cleanest option would be wholemeal. I try to eat bread maximum once a week. And pasta once a week too!

Oh yesterday I went to ikea to pick up some stuff for my new room cos I'll be moving soon and I got moose shaped wholemeal pasta! Normally cute pastas only come in the non wholemeal version so I was really excited about that.

SGFS: Clean Coconut Curry

Saturday 13 July 2013

Singaporeans need their curry. Absolutely love how easy and delicious this chicken curry is! It's single serving like almost all my recipes. Enjoy xx

Chocolate kiwi pancakes

Monday 8 July 2013

This is just a variation of my usual cottage cheese pancake recipe but I'll just repost again! I have a feeling you can use less cottage cheese but I haven't tried it so :-)

SGFS: Healthy Chicken Rice

Sunday 7 July 2013

Hi all (: So I've come up with something called the Singapore Food Series aka SGFS. Each week I'll healthify one Singaporean dish (food) and post it on my blog! Singaporean food is pretty unhealthy so I decided healthifying some local favourites would benefit those who live here. Even if you aren't Singaporean, you can still try the recipes to create some clean Singapore classics!

The first recipe I've decided to healthify is the unofficial national dish of Singapore, Chicken Rice. I made the stock on my own by boiling 2 cups of water with chicken bones. This healthy chicken rice tastes just like a mild version of chicken rice and is so good!

Sweet Potato Salmon Nomcakes

Saturday 6 July 2013

Now that I'm done ebooking I'll be posting a lot more! These were inspired by these 'Ugly Salmon Cakes' (yes they're called that) my mom ordered at a restaurant on Father's Day. My mum says mine tastes better and she really loved them. I did too and though they aren't all that pretty, they taste pretty damn good.

Raspberry Coconut Pancakes

These are so good! I think this is my most successful attempt of coconut flour pancakes and one of the most perfect pancake stacks I've ever made! Had a tiny bit of left over batter so I made a baby pancake for my parents. It was so adorable.
